Things to know about coffee
Coffee mainly grows in countries close to the equator, where the climate is constantly warm. Therefore, the largest coffee-growing areas are in South America, India and Africa, where the trees and bushes are offered ideal conditions.
Inside the so-called coffee cherries, in turn, is the coffee bean as a seed. Strictly speaking, coffee beans are not actually beans, but stone kernels (as in our sour cherries). These stone kernels are dried, fermented and roasted after harvesting. African coffee in particular is praised by connoisseurs for its unique quality and intense taste.
The most important varieties for world trade are the coffee plants Arabica, which is characterized by a fruity taste, and Robusta, which tastes bitter and earthy. These are grown in Nigeria, for example.
Two billion cups of coffee are drunk worldwide every day.
Coffee is not just coffee. Its taste depends on many factors: from the variety to the roasting and the way it is prepared. With over 100 types and a multitude of coffee variations and mixed drinks, there is something for everyone.
